Back in the saddle

Well today is the first day of the rest of my life.

And as i get more and more control over my own life, i find more and more energy.

So i am back now, just got a reminder that it's time to sign up for double wars. And finding myself in a spot where i can now cope with more than just work, it's time to get back into the SCA clothes.

Actually, over the last few days, i have been eyeing a new computer, as the old one has trashed 5 harddrives over the last few months. But then i realised, that all that money could be used to buy myself a set of armor instead.

So now i'm out looking for some nice complete set of armour to wear for the SCA. I'm not just going to buy the cheapest, I am going for some really great looking armour, that can also be used to recruit more people from denmark into the SCA.

The wants :

Full sallet helmet, with bevor
Metal gloves
Splintet arms and legs
And a nice looking breastplate with some cool looking shoulders.
And an arming coat.

let's see if i can get it in time for double wars. If not, then i am also planning on going to pennsic this year, and can hope it arrives before then. I want to look sharp and clean.

But, if i am to fight in these wars, i need to get in shape.

currently, i'm trying out the warrior diet, and it works nicely. But i don't spend time on workouts, and that's the thing to get me in shape for the strenuous activity of war.

So from now on, it's 20 mins intense HIT training on my bike every 2nd day for the first 14 days, and then 5 times a week after that. Adding to that, some intense core training and arm training, should see me fit for fight.

let's see if i can stay on course.

TITUS IS BACK.... back i tell you... :)

SCA recruitment

I live in Denmark. A few years back, there wasn't even a single SCA group there. There still almost isn't one. We started out hot, but most people didn't have the drive to keep it running. So we basically fell apart again.

We are a few, keeping a small flame going, but it's tough, as i'm basically the only one keeping it going except once a year.

Denmark is special, in the way of SCA. We are not that big a country, and those that are into this genre, well, the young ones, play larps, and the mature ones, basically do reenactment. Between them, where SCA falls, is not much space. So our mission here is to bring both groups together.

We probably won't get many from reeenactment to join us, not untill we get a big community running. Now larpers, well we could get tons of them. But then we would have a ton of larpers trying to do sca larp style. That would be bad.

What i feel we need, is to get a basic group of at least 8-10 people with really good sca equipment. Not just standard, but preferably a bit above. Metal armor, well sewn clothing, the works.
Then we could start recruiting the larpers, because they would then right away see what they could aspire to.
Now if i recruited larpers now, most would only see our plastic armor, and think that is all that's ever needed. So i'm reluctant to recruite them.

But i am preparing for the big recruitment drive, and for that, i have been working on a recruitment DVD. Then i had a harddisk crash and have lost it all. So now i have to start all over again and find new material to use to compose it.

Basically it's going to have as the main feature, the two tv reports on Gulf wars i have my hands on. And then alot of the small videos i have been able to find. Nothing big or perfect, but enough to show something.
And then it's going to have a huge slideshow of fotos from the sca, with a soft mideaval background music. To have running while you answer questions.

This is ofcourse going to be free for all that want to use it, and fully downloadable...

well i'm off, looking for more videos for it..

take care all...

Huge change of life

Well, recent weeks have seen my life change about totally.

2 days before my birthday, i met a lovely woman... now she is my girlfriend, and we are practically living together. She has a daughter close to 3 months old... the cutest thing. Things have moved fast but still at a nice slow pace... difficult to explain i guess. Anyways, life is great, and i'm getting called daddy by the mom... hehe..

Also, as i'm currently between real jobs, i tried my hand at some brick working stuff. Wasn't me, standing around on a wet and windy building site, laying bricks and cleaning up mortar. Besides, my back started killing me something fierce, so no more shovelling sand into the cement mixer for me.

Tried the boardgame of world of warcraft.. have a normal aversion to the world and setting, but the game is freaking brilliantly made... really sent my thoughts away on game designing.. i like that. Once again, FantasyFlightGames have made something cool.. Also, i'm mostly for team games, as i don't mind losing as a team, but i hate losing as a single player. And this is a great team game, 2vs2, or 3vs3... if you like boardgames, go try it out somewhere...

Several years ago

actually more than a few, back when i was in my starting 20'ties....
I was in a viking reenactment group. Having a great place as home city, near Trelleborg, Slagelse in denmark. One of the biggest fortifications from viking denmark.
We did shows of coreographed combat with live steel swords. Was quite fun.

Back then i searched the internet, and actually found a few mentions of the SCA. Curious about what it was, i looked it up, thought it looked nice, and promptly forgot about it.

A few years later, i stumbled across the SCA again on the web, it was during my time as an apprentice for the armor smith store, called "Hvide Horse, Fionia" or white horse, fionia. They were also a medieaval reenactment company, setting up an entire mercenary guard.
I only read about the SCA, in the armoring content, as i was looking around for ideas for armor.

While i normally have trouble even learning how to do simple stuff with wood, cloth or any other substance, once i started shaping metal, i was hooked. It seemed i had a natual affinity for it, and i quite quickly was up to speed on all the basic parts of armor making. My master, enjoyed finally having someone to bounce ideas around with, and i was just happy to have found something i enjoyed so much.

Alas, all things come to an end, and we ended up having a bad fallout, which ended in me beeing discharged. It was not a job, more like a practice thing to do during my studies. But still it was sad to go.

A few years after that, roughly 3 years ago, i looked up the SCA again on the web. Read extensively from all the sources i could find and track down, studied what the SCA was, looking for video clips from all sources. The holy grail was to find a video of pennsic. Still havent found one, as it seems the only one there is, is one you have to pay for, and as i do not have a way to get cash on paypal or visa, then it's quite difficult.

So if someone have a used DVD of pennsic, i would love to borrow it for a month or two...

Now having studied SCA for a few months, i decided i truly wanted to do this. Drafted a few of my friends, we 5 paid our membership dues, and started the Incipient Shire of Eresborg. The first few months were a blast. Having meetings and fun. Then 3 of them started being hard pressed from real life, and suddenly we were only 2 active people. That sucked.

But lo and behold, the kingdom chatelaine, whom i was writing quite a bit with, asking all the stupid noob questions one could ask, told me of an american couple who were living in denmark for awhile, and of a few others living around denmark being members. So our count rose again. Though we never were able to get hold of the others living around denmark, we did meet the couple.

Had a few fun evenings, but they weren't really active. But they did provide some good stories.

During those days, we drafted another friend of ours, and we 3 decided, that we were going to go to Double Wars, the biggest event and war in Drachenwald. Being only a few months away, having no clothes, no armor, no weapons, and no idea, we started searching for solutions.

Living in central copenhagen at the time, it was impossible to find a cheap place to rent to have a workshop. So we were forced to buy armor on the web. In such a short time, it would be impossible to get a plate suit of armor, so we decided on plastic. Bought full plastic suits all of us, and ordered a few helmets from Drachenwalds local importer, to arrive at site during Double wars. So no time to practice.

Well we got the suits of armor, and we needed to custum fit them. And pad them. It ended up being me padding 3 suits of armor, with foam, glued to the inside. And not using a proper mask to the contact glue. Man my nose was ruined for a year after that... while the other 2 guys were sewing all our clothes. Just basic stuff, so we had something to wear.

Then we rented a car in sweden, drove it over to denmark, picked up all our stuff, and drove off to sweden again. Yes the car was 50% cheaper in sweden, thats why.
Enter our first event. Double wars 2005.
Luckily, our 3rd members parants, had an apartment 30 min drive away from site, so we went to the apartment to stay. And to finish some of the clothes we still needed. Which was alot.

Actually we were scheduled to leave copenhagen on friday, but it became sunday before we left. And we did not arrive at site, until monday. And during the next few days, we got to site after noon, and stayed there till evening, when we returned to the apartment to finish more stuff. Finally come thursday, we were ready and were at site almost full time. Though going home some of the nights to sleep in a good bed and get a shower.

We practiced a fair bit, and got help fitting our helmets from peole who know what worked. Had a blast, and finally authorized. Fought in the first day war, and i became a marshal in training during the second war day.

Well that was my first event ever... maybe i'll tell more about the event some day. But for now, cya next time. Hope you enjoyed it.

First installment

Well well well... here i am... having sworn not to create a blog, as i find these things are a fad.. and i hate fads...

But i have thought about it, and the way i work when i try to create stuff, it helps me to write down my thoughts. And what better way to do it than to use a blog, and get some free input hopefully on the way.

first, lets start out with some info about me. I'm 29 years old... turning 30 this year... oh boy.. getting old now. I live in denmark, in a city called Taastrup, in an apartment i share with a friend. He's also an SCA'dian, though not as active. If i could be called active..

i spend hours and hours a week, thinking and planning sca, but i rarely seem to have the possibility to do anything. But i digress.

I love to read books... science fiction and fantasy... i hope to one day finish writing a book, but i seem to always get sidetracked on my projects...
I am also working on a movie script, for a medieaval movie, about warfare.

I'm currently writing on a LARP world, with a full rules system along with it. Been working on it on and off for 5 years or so. Still lots of stuff i need to finish.

I love martial arts... especially Aikido. Would love to practice that again. It's so perfect, you don't learn to strike or kick, but you learn to move out of the way. Have been wondering if i could get back in shape with it, and use it to avoid getting hit on the tourney field in SCA.

I also love computers, and have a nice big one. Build it myself, so i'm not totally daft. Playing Everquest 2, Ghost recon, Dawn of war and some battlefield 2. But i'm really waiting for the game Enemy Territory : Quake Wars.

Well this is a short start... think the next installment will be a bit about my SCA career, though short and not that eventfull.
